Vibraphonist/percussionist Joe Sonnefeldt spends most of his time performing, recording, and teaching music around Chicago and the Midwest. Since 2018 he has been the featured soloist with Ruben Alvarez and Raíces, a Latin Jazz ensemble that pays tribute to Cal Tjader, Tito Puente and other originators of Latin Jazz. In 2021 Joe assumed the leadership of Raíces. He has also played and recorded CDs with several other Chicago-based groups including “Azul Oscuro” from Sueños, “Seconds” from The Pan Go Steel Band and Poi Dog Pondering's "In Seed Comes Fruit".
Since 2003 Joe has been busy performing for various Broadway shows that have come to Chicago including Mean Girls, Disney's Aladdin, Newsies, Wicked and The Lion King. He also plays at private and public events all around Chicago with his own JoeSounds Caribbean Band and JoeSounds Steel Band.
